Bible
Bible is my favorite time of the day. I am so excited about the things we will be learning in Bible this year, starting with a series on salvation. We will then go into series on Genesis, the Life of Christ, and the life of Paul. We will also have some missionary stories throughout the year, as well as reviewing our chapel lessons. Bible passages will be memorized each month, starting with John 3:14-19 (KJV) in the month of September.
Homework
In first grade, we focus a lot of attention on phonics and reading. The practice your child receives at home is so important. Each night, your child should read the homework to himself/herself twice, and then read it to an adult once. Please sign the steno pad once your child has finished their homework each night. Students are responsible to bring their own steno pads to school each day. Reading homework will start the second week of school.
Spelling Homework will be assigned once a week, starting around the third week of school. On the day this page is assigned, have your child complete the bottom half (copying the spelling words), to return to school, then cut off the top half to study at home throughout the week.
Birthdays
We’d love to share your child’s birthday! If you would like to send in a special treat, please let me know a few days ahead of time.
Supplies
Please be sure to have your child’s supplies labeled and ready for the first day of school. Also, please check throughout the year to make sure your child has all the supplies they need, so he/she is always prepared.
Lunch
Children may either buy or pack lunch. Plate lunch costs $2.75 and milk is $0.35 each day, totaling $3.10. Please place money in an envelope, marking the envelope with your child’s name, what the money is for, and how much is in the envelope. Milk money can be sent in daily ($0.35) or by the week ($1.75). Please label the envelope as stated above. All money must be placed in an envelope.
Home folders
Your child will bring home a home folder each night with important information and papers each night. Please empty the folder each evening and place all school notes and money in the folder each day, as I will check the folders each morning.
Ministry Partners
This year our class will be partnering with two ministries- one within the United States and one outside the U.S. Our ministry in the U.S. will be with Nationwide Children’s Hospital here in Columbus. We will help by providing some of the things on their Wish List periodically throughout the year. Our second ministry partner will be with Allow the Children. Allow the Children offers a sponsorship program for some of the neediest children in the world. Our class will be sponsoring a child together. More information will follow. You can find out more about Allow the Children on their website: www.allowthechildren.org.
